Chemotherapy

What you wish to know about Chemotherapy
(In short : what everybody has to know)

Before any chemotherapy treatment, tell your doctor :

- if you are allergic to certain drugs - whether you already take drugs that require a prescription, because the combined action of some drugs may cause problems.
Do not forget to tell him whether you take the contraceptive pill, laxatives or aspirin.
- if you have any other medical problem; because some of them may influence your therapy
- if you are pregnant or if you are planning to have children (some drugs may cause birth defects or make you sterile)
- if you are breast-feeding (some drugs may reach the breastmilk and affect the child)

Important information :

You have to remember the following about drugs in general :
- if information you are given on drugs seem vague and unsatisfying and if you are worried about their use, consult your doctor and ask for further explanations
- you were prescribed your drugs for your personal use and for your disease.
Never give them to other people and never use them to ease other malaises than those you were prescribed the drug for, unless your doctor allows you to do so-for your drugs to be efficient, you have to use them the way they were prescribed to you
- keep all your drugs out of children's reach
- keep them as indicated on the packing.

Call your doctor if you experience one of the following problems :

:- persistent and violent vomiting that lasts more than 24h after your treatment
- diarrhea that lasts more than 48h after the treatment
- sudden and frequent bleedings and ecchymosis, presence of petechia (small red dots on the skin)
