Le cancer du sein, un regard optimiste vers l'avenir ‘Breast Cancer : an optimistic look at the future’ (Prof. JM Nogaret)
Who better than Jean-Marie Nogaret could have written a simple, clear and deeply human book for women that have to face and overcome breast cancer?’
For more than twenty years, Jean-Marie has been attentive to his patients; he has put himself at their service and has devoted himself ‘body and soul’ to give them a quality medical care. He is the pioneer of the sentinel lymph node technique in Belgium and is very proud of being in the vanguard of progress in his discipline: surgery. He also shows very much respect for his colleagues: internists, oncologists, radiotherapists, gynaecologists, psychiatrics…, and also for the paramedical staff (nurses, psychologists, kinesitherapists, occupational therapists…).
From then on, he succeeded in being surrounded by a strongly united multidisciplinary team that tries to make care and psychological support the most adapted to every patient. At the same time, he also got actively involved in research – a source of progress for the fight against breast cancer that cannot be overlooked.
In his book, he explains with simple and intelligible words every step from the diagnosis to the treatment, and without forgetting to speak about ‘life after treatment’.
The recent advances achieved thanks to research in each one of these steps are clearly summarized; this gives to the disease a more human aspect, and to the book a source of hope and confidence in the future.
The fact of being well informed allows to fight better against the disease. The book is written with words from the heart and will become the ‘ally’ of women who have to struggle bravely against the disease everyday’.
