The Nobel Prize was introduced in 1901.
Alfred Nobel was a Swedish engineer and chemist (1833-1896), he invented dynamite.
When he died, his huge fortune went to a foundation, whose main goals are to reward each year those who contributed to the most common good in the following areas :
Physics, Chemistry, Physiology and Medicine, Literature and Peace. In 1968, the Nobel Prize in Economics was created.

We would like to thank Professor André Govaerts for the photos of Nobel Prices (of Jules Bordet) that illustrate this page.
