Medical Council
The Medical Council of the Institute Jules Bordet is an official instance active since 1969. The Council represents the community of doctors practising their expertise of healing at the hospital. It is constituted by the department heads of the different clinical services in their quality of full members as well as by those elected among the titular temporary medical staff.
Its members elect the president of the Medical Council. The term of office is 1 year, and can be renewed 3 times in succession.
The objectives of the Medical Council are :
1) defining the medical needs of the hospital
2) giving voice to the opinion of the medical staff concerning problems of practise, its promotion and medical ethics.
The Medical Council is responsible for :
- Stimulating the quality of practised medecine and evaluating it
- Making sure that the rules of the professional code of ethics are being respected
- Promoting team spirit among doctors
- Ensuring that internal and external cooperation is guaranteed
In addition, the Medical Council is integrally involved in the decisions concerning the organization of the different services and may be asked its opinion on matters touching the entire hospital community, specifically :
- Advising on the remuneration of the medical staff
- Competence of specialists, renewal of term
- Agreements with third parties
- Position, statute and qualification of the nurses' staff
- Nomination of the Medical Director
