Ethics Committee

Internal Regulation

Article 1

The Committee is composed of at least eight members who represent both sexes

Article 2

A member of the Committee is appointed for four years and his term of office is renewable from the effective date of this regulation.

Article 3

The Committee elects a Chairman, a Vice-chairman and a Secretary who form the executive board, the term of office of which is four years and is renewable.

Article 4

In a work session, the Committee meets at least once a month unless the work volume does not require it.

Article 5

For the Committee to meet validly in a work session, at least five members must be present, one of which must be a member of the executive board.

Article 6

For the quorum to be achieved, as soon as he receives the notice of meeting, each member has to tell that he won't be able to participate in the work session at the planned date by notifying it to the executive secretary, who will then give notice to the Chairman.
If several members cannot participate and thus the quorum won't be achieved, the Chairman asks the Secretary to cancel the meeting and to ask the members when they would prefer to held another session according to the availability of each of them. These information will enable the Chairman to fix a date when the meeting will take place.

Article 7

In respect of its missions as they were determined by the 12 August 2004 Royal Order and by the law on experiments on human beings, the Committee can and/or must collect and use all the useful information or advice. To that effect, it can hear the investigator or every person who may be or not be a member of the Institute.

Article 8

The executive board elected within the Committee can ask the hospital management for the setting up of an administrative secretariat to (among others) draw the minutes of the work sessions, if it considers that this is necessary to execute its task properly.

Article 9

Since the legislative provision relative to the composition of the Ethics Committees and their organisation change, this internal regulation adopted by simple majority of the members of the Committee can be modified, improved or completed through a simple notification of members required by the Chairman or his delegate
