Your Questions about your Hospitalization
from your arrival to when you get out of the Hospital

Your Bedroom

All our bedrooms are equipped with an electric bed which is adjustable and adaptable to your needs as well as a bedside table with integrated fridge. The rooms with one or two beds have a shower room or a bathroom with toilets and a television with a remote control. The Admissions Office will give it to you in exchange for a security. In order to respect the peace and quiet of other patients, please control the sound level of your television.
The rooms have an incoming telephone line

 
Ladies, do not forget you are known with your maiden name in the hospital !!

At the time of your admission, after the payment of a deposit, you will be given a personnal PIN number for the incoming call. If you want to call someone who is out of the hospital, dial the "0", your PIN number and then the phone number of the person you want to call.

 

People who give support to you

If you want, an extra bed can be added in the single rooms. There will be an additional charge on your bill.
A Reception House, «Les Tournesols», is put at your disposal by the asbl « Julie et François Drion ». It is located 5 min walk from the Institute. This welcoming and family accomodation place, includes 11 bedrooms with a self-contained bathroom. A kitchen, a dining room and two common living rooms are also put at your disposal. The medical team

In the Jules Bordet Institute, a multidisciplinary medical team takes care of you and consults each other so that you can have the best care. In this team, there are oncologists, pathologists, surgeons, onco-psychiatrists, radiologists, radiotherapist, urologist, specialists in clinical biology and infectious diseases, nuclear medicine specialists…
You wil be hospitalized in a service led by an over-fifties specialist doctor surrounded by medical residents team (graduated specialists) , resident candidates (doctors who is specializing) and interns (medical students).
 

The paramedical team

The paramedical team intervenes if an expert assistance is necessary, in order to strengthen your care or to improve your comfort. A team with physiotherapists, psychologists, logopedists, dieticians, occupational therapists who collaborates all the time with the medical team and the team of doctors and nurses. Please ask the doctor or the head nurse if you want the team to come by.

 

The Team of nurses and administrative

- The head nurse : is there to ensure the smooth running of the departement in which you are hospitalized. Any time, you can call on it if you have any question, then the head nurse will inform the medical team of your question.

- The nurses : give care and treatment prescribed by the doctors. The nurses constantly monitors and can give you some pieces of advice relative to your health. Assisted by nursing assistant, they will meet your basic needs.

- The administrative assistance : organizes the appointments of the tests prescribed by the doctor both during and after hospitalization.

 

Each person you were speaking to, wears a white coat and a badge which enable you to identify the person. Never hesitate to ask her name and her responsabilities. Any person who enters your room has to introduce herself. Ask her it if she omits to do it.

 
The visits

The visit is a special moment for the patient.
In the care departments, visiting hours are from 1p.m. to 8 p.m. The maximum number of visitors in your room, is 3 people. For the Steril Unit and the RESI, only 2 visitors can enter your room.
If your visitors are more than 3, they have to take it in turns to enter your room. In a room with 2 beds, it is important to respect the rest of your bedfellow.
Children must not run in the corridors or take the elevator unaccompanied. Parents can not leave their children unsupervised.
If there is a problem or a specific request, please contact the nurse in charge of the ward.
In the intensive care unit, visiting hours are limitated in order to enable patients’care and rest. Children are not allowed.

 

The meals

The meals are served in your room. Meal tickets are available to the checkout at the ground-floor if your visitors wants to eat with you. The cafeteria and the shop are also at your disposal (go to the heading "Our Departments").
You can benefit from some pieces of advice of a dietician and a medical nutritionist, if necessary.

 

Tobacco free hospital

The Jules Bordet Institute is part of the european network of Tobaco Free Hospitals. Cigarette seriously damages your health and others’ health. If you are a smoker, take advantage of your stay in the hospital to stop smoking. Talk about it to our medical staff. Piece of advice and support will be suggested.
As laid down by law, tobacco concumption is not allowed inside the hospital.

 

The movement of patients

If you leave the floor, please inform the nurses of your floor. During your absence, a test, a visit or a phone call could occur. You have to wear a dressing gown and slippers when you move into the Institute.
If you want to go out of the hospital during your stay, you need the consent of the doctors and the signature of a discharge form.

 

The technical and worker staff

The cleaning, technical and worker staff works actively to your comfort by dealing with hygiene, security and the proper fonctioning of the facility.

 

Hospital hygiene

Even if hospital staff deals with hygiene, it affects also everybody who is in the hospital, the patients, of course, but also family and the visitors.
Most of germs are conveied by hands, so do wash carefully your hands and ask your visitors to do it as well.
Germs can also be conveied by the air we breath out, that is the reason why you are advised to wear a mask in case of respiratory infection or in case of risk of contamination for yourself orally.
Inform your relatives that only cut flowers are allowed in the rooms. However, flowers are not allowed nor at ASTI(5th floor), nor at RESI(5th floor), or steril unit (3rd floor).
