Mission
Echography allows to visualize, through ultrasounds, numerous organs such as
the thyroid, the breast, the liver, the gall-bladder, the pancreas, the kidney,
the spleen, the bladder but also muscles and tendons.
There is then no use of X-ray.
For some organs, especially the prostate, the uterus and the ovaries, endoluminal probes are used, for example, intrarectal or intravaginal probes.
The use of the "color Doppler" (based on the Doppler's effect) is frequent : the vessel takes colors and a study of the spectrum can be done as it is the case for carotid arteries, renal arteries, the veins of upper or lower limb but also for the masses that have to be investigated.
For thyroid, prostatic, hepatic or renal pathologies, the needle aspiration samples are performed in order to make microscopic examination.
During surgical manipulation ( for example : destruction of metastasis with radio-frequency) or for the placement of nephrostomy echographists are very usefull.
