Mission
Our investigations concern the estrogen receptor (ER alpha form) as well as associated proteins regulating its activity (co-regulators). ER (Estrogen Receptor) is a major determinant of breast cancer biology :
- ER is correlated with a specific phenotype (luminal/epithelial) of good prognosis ;
- ER confers an ability to the tumors to favorably respond to antiestrogens administration.
ER belongs to the "nuclear receptors superfamily". These receptors are transcription factors the activity of which depends on the binding of a ligand (i.e. estradiol for ER). ER controls the expression of genes required for cell growth and/or differentiation, through association with DNA motifs located in the vicinity of promoters of such genes, as well as through binding to co-regulators.
