Pain Unit
Mission
Multidisciplinarity with the Unit of Medicine, Anesthesia, Radio-isotopes, Palliative Care and collaboration with the attending physician and the I.R.I.S. network.
Pain, whatever it is acute or chronic, is a matter of public health. Its optimal management is the duty of an health care institution.
Within the Institute, there is a structured, multidisciplinary clinic of pain. It ensures the continuity of care by a guard system. It includes an internist, an anesthesist, a nurse, psychologists and psychiatrists, a radiotherapist and a surgeon. This Unit is functioning for a long time and can be seen as a reference.
The main members take actively part in training as well for the IRIS network as for other structures. It would be appropriate to assure consultations in the other network institutions. A clinic of pain is a good way to establish patient loyalty. The clinic of pain has also to be performing on the academic point of view and has to promote the setting up of clinic and paraclinical investigation protocols.
The clinic is actually financed according to the classic modalities (day price, INAMI norms) without any consultation norms.
Particular conventions with the INAMI should be proposed.
