Occupational Therapy (Ergotherapy)
Mission (Introduction)
Official Definition of the World Federation of Occupational Therapy
“The occupational therapist is the paramedic who assists people suffering from a physical, mental and / or social dysfunction. He helps them to acquire, to recover or to keep an optimal performance in their personal life or in their professional occupations and leisure by using concrete activities related to it, and by taking into account the potentiality and constraints of their environment.”
The Occupational Therapy Process:
Actually, all our interventions are not therapeutic (home fittings, adaptation of everyday items…)
• Assessment of the needs and definition of the therapeutic goals;
• Conception and setting up of the treatment plan: the occupational therapist is responsible for the treatment strategy but the patient is the main actor. The occupational therapist has to adapt the goals according to the abilities of the patient and their evolution. He also has to provide the appropriate equipment and to teach how to use it;
• Assessment of the results and proposition of a follow-up.
