Breast Cancer Translational Research Laboratory J.C. Heuson

Opdracht

The “Breast Cancer Translational Research Laboratory J.C. Heuson” (BCTL) directed by Pr. Christos Sotiriou MD, PhD, is located at the Jules Bordet Institute (Free University of Brussels - ULB). It uses several molecular approaches to gain a better understanding of breast tumorigenesis, metastasis and the mechanisms involved in breast cancer drug resistance. It is acting in liaison between the fundamental research and clinical research (closely linked with the Breast International Group (BIG) and the TransBIG (translational research program of the BIG – founded by Pr M Piccart) to insure faster application of these findings to the clinic.
The Breast Cancer Translational Research Laboratory at the ULB was created very recently (since June 2010). It is composed of ~10 people including technicians, PhD students, research fellows, and post Docs. The research is mainly funded by several grants from the FNRS/FRSM, “Fondation contre le cancer”, EU grants, IRSIB, the “Action 29 du Plan National Cancer”, Breast Cancer Research Foundation and Susan G. Komen Foundation (USA).
