The Women’s Imaging Clinic specializes in the screening, diagnosis, follow-up and interventional procedures for breast and gynecological conditions. Our mission is to provide every patient with personalized, timely and high-quality care, based on recognized medical expertise and state-of-the-art equipment.
Our work relies on close collaboration with the gynecology, oncology, breast surgery, pathology and nuclear medicine teams, enabling optimal multidisciplinary care for our patients.
The Clinic also maintains a close partnership with the HUB Genetics Department, particularly for the assessment and follow-up of patients with a hereditary predisposition to breast or ovarian cancer. This collaboration is further strengthened by the expertise of our Head of Department, who specializes in breast imaging and cancer genetics.
We also work closely with the Breast Cancer Screening Centre, ensuring a coordinated patient pathway between organized screening, additional diagnostic examinations and specialized care when required.
Our team actively participates in multidisciplinary meetings and the HUB’s academic activities, contributing to the continuous improvement of patient care and the development of innovation in women’s imaging.
Breast Imaging
The Women’s Imaging Clinic is equipped with state-of-the-art technology, enabling comprehensive management of breast conditions, including screening examinations, dedicated surveillance of patients at high genetic risk, as well as staging and follow-up of breast cancer:
- Diagnostic and screening digital mammography (accredited for the Mammotest screening programme)
- Breast tomosynthesis available on all three of our mammography units
- Contrast-enhanced mammography (contrast-enhanced spectral mammography), soon to be available
- Breast ultrasound
- Breast MRI using a Siemens 1.5 Tesla system
- Dedicated surveillance of patients at high genetic risk
- Staging and follow-up of breast cancer
Interventional Breast Radiology
Our breast imaging platform is recognized for its expertise in interventional radiology and offers a full range of specialized techniques that remain relatively uncommon in Belgium:
- Ultrasound-guided breast needle aspirations
- Ultrasound-guided breast biopsies
- Stereotactic or tomosynthesis-guided vacuum-assisted breast biopsies, performed on a dedicated biopsy table
- MRI-guided vacuum-assisted breast biopsies
- Contrast-enhanced mammography-guided vacuum-assisted breast biopsies, soon to be available
- Preoperative localization procedures (magnetic seed, carbon marking, etc.)
The availability of a dedicated stereotactic biopsy table, together with our expertise in MRI-guided vacuum-assisted breast biopsies, represents a major asset of our centre. These capabilities allow us to manage complex lesions requiring highly specialized expertise.
Gynaecological Imaging
Our gynaecological imaging activity focuses on specialized pelvic MRI:
- Pelvic MRI
- Staging of gynaecological cancers
- Assessment of complex endometriosis
- Examinations performed in close collaboration with the Endometriosis Clinic at Erasme Hospital
This collaboration enables patients to benefit from multidisciplinary expertise combining specialized radiologists, gynaecologists and surgeons with expertise in the management of complex pelvic conditions.
