Identifying the warning signs of male cancers
Male urological cancers are often poorly diagnosed. Yet the sooner they are diagnosed and treated the greater the chances of remission.
Reminder of the warning signs :
The presence of blood in the urine, an abnormally frequent desire to urinate and painful bladder spasms. A consultation is necessary as soon as any of these warning signs are detected to obtain a rapid diagnosis, especially for smokers as smoking is a major risk factor.
Pain in the testicles, lower abdomen or scrotum, increased volume or swelling of the testicles, feeling of heaviness in the testicles, painless nodules. Between the ages of 14 and 45 men are advised to self-examine through palpation at least once a month to identify any warning signs as quickly as possible.
Cancer of the penis often produces symptoms at an early stage. In most cases the first sign of penile cancer is a change to the skin that may be apparent at the head of the penis or on the foreskin of non-circumcised men.
No particular symptoms, except in some cases difficulty in urinating or urine leakage. It is important to monitor patients with a family history of prostate cancer and increased PSA levels !
Usually no particular symptoms. Sometimes presence of blood in the urine, pain in the side or a palpable mass in the lumbar region.
The opinion of a urologist is often necessary
If one of your patients shows one of these symptoms, remember to think of cancers.
