The Jules Bordet Institute accredited as a “Comprehensive Cancer Centre” by the OECI

International recognition that confirms the excellence of your care

The Jules Bordet Institute has just been officially accredited by the Organisation of European Cancer Institutes (OECI) as a Comprehensive Cancer Centre (CCC) for a period of five years. It now joins  a select group of 50 accredited centres worldwide that are recognised for the exemplary integration of their care, research and teaching in the field of oncology.

What this accreditation means for you, the patients

For patients and their loved ones, this accreditation is above all a guarantee of trust. It is testimony to the fact that  the Jules Bordet Institute meets the most demanding European standards in cancer care,  following an in-depth evaluation of the complete care pathway: prevention, screening, diagnosis, treatment, support during and after cancer, quality of life, care safety and patient involvement.

This evaluation by the OECI international experts extends beyond medical performance. It also analyses how the teams cooperate, share their experiences and place the patient at the heart of every decision.

This accreditation is your guarantee that our ambitions for excellence are more than an internal commitment. They are ambitions validated, verified and recognised at the highest international level.

The Jules Bordet Institute within the European network of Comprehensive Cancer Centres

The OECI  accreditation also includes us in the future European CCC network (EU CCC's Network),a European Union initiative  designed to strengthen cooperation between Europe’s best cancer centres.

Specifically, this means:

  • Privileged access to scientific and clinical collaborations with Europe’s leading centres
  • An increased capacity to participate in clinical trials, widening the treatment options available to our patients.
  • Continuous sharing of best practices for the direct benefit of the quality of care that Bordet provides.

An integrated approach in which care, research and teaching progress together

There is much more to recognition as a  “Comprehensive Cancer Centre”  than guaranteed access to specialised care. It also confirms a hospital’s ability to integrate  clinical care, fundamental and clinical research, innovation, training of healthcare professionals and the dissemination of scientific knowledge within  the same dynamic.

As the university hospital of the Université libre de Bruxelles, the Jules Bordet Institute has been developing this integrated approach for many years already. Discoveries made in its laboratories feed into clinical practices while the needs observed in patients orientate research projects and treatment innovation.

This proximity between researchers, clinicians and professionals in the field enables patients to benefit from cutting edge medicine based on the latest scientific progress and multidisciplinary care.

A drive for continuous improvement

OECI accreditation is not a point of arrival. It is rather a demanding framework that commits us to continuous progress, in coordinating teams, organising care pathways and integrating research into clinical practice.

At the heart of this dynamic is  the ambition to guarantee global, integrated and deeply human  care for each patient, for  the Jules Bordet Institute but also for all the hospitals  that  constitute the Brussels University Hospital.
