De kliniek voor infectieziekten van het Institut Jules Bordet heeft als taak infectiecomplicaties bij kankerpatiënten te voorkomen en te behandelen, ongeacht of ze te maken hebben met de tumor zelf dan wel met de behandeling ervan (chemotherapie, radiotherapie, chirurgie enz.).
- Preventie en antibioticabehandeling van infecties, in nauwe samenwerking met het volledige artsenteam van het instituut
- Behandeling van de febriele neutropenie die kan ontstaan na chemotherapie
- Preventie en behandeling van infectiecomplicaties na transplantatie van hematopoëtische stamcellen.
De dienst infectieziekten werkt mee aan de interuniversitaire cursus infectieziekten. Deze cursus semiologie wordt gegeven aan geneeskundestudenten en maakt ook deel uit van een reeks opleidingen voor artsen die stage volgen in het Institut Jules Bordet.
